On Budokai Tenkaichi 3, there is a lot of shaders and lighting going on, specially on transformations (Super Saiyans). And I couldn't find any way to bring that back. For example, when you're going fast with your car and the streets blur a little bit to give a nice sense of speed. Like on Midnight Club 3, had to remove the headlights and had to play without a lot of graphical stuff. Most of the time, I can't fix them, so I remove them entirely. However, on PCSX2 I have to go to the wiki and see the bugs that need to be fixed, and I adjust the settings to try to fix them. When I play on dolphin, I just load the game in, adjust some enhancements, and it's ready to go. I have yet to play a game on PCSX2 without a graphical bug. And even the games that do run, have a lot of graphical issues. There's a lot of games that don't run at all on PCSX2, so I guess the emulator is not really in an accurate state. However, it's not 100% perfect, therefore some bugs will still happen. The software renderer is very accurate to the PS2's display, but can be very slow depending on your CPU and the visuals of the game. You can find some graphical bugs but the overwhelming majority of the time they're caused by typos or caused by logic bugs in other parts of the system.

The N64 is basically the limit of that approach right now.Īs for PCSX2's software renderer, it's very good and very fast. That's not to say that it's ideal, but the system is complicated enough as it is that trying to emulate the hardware in a 100% accurate way is basically impossible. Loose hardware emulation is still OK for the PS2 as long as it emulates the abstract platform accurately enough to preserve everything that targeted that abstract platform. For example, the very first japanese BIOS version has a bunch of bad bugs, and there are hardware revisions that change subtle things about how the disk drive works.

But you have to remember that the PS2 is the point when console games started targeting the system as an abstract platform, not a specific one. PCSX2 is not cycle accurate and has a host of minor discrepancies from real hardware.
